Annual 5k Turkey Trot raises funds for student scholarships at UW-La Crosse
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse hosted its 29th annual 5k Turkey Trot Fun Run and Walk on Saturday.
Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships and development.
The event featured a Junior Gobbler Dash, a half-mile race, and a half-mile walk, followed by a 5k run or walk.The Student Coordinator said the event is a great way to unite the community.
"This race is not only a race. It's an opportunity for the community to come out and promote healthy lifestyles with community and campus, getting the students together and then supporting a noble cause," said Samantha Wendt, Student Coordinator, Marketing Events at UWL.

UW-La Crosse holds 29th annual Turkey Trot
Samantha Wendt, the Student Coordinator for Marketing Events at UWL, shared more about how the event's proceeds will be used.
"The proceeds go to scholarships for student development through the UWL alumni and friends development foundation and it's for student development through employees and participations as well."

UWL REC hosts 29th annual Turkey Trot
The student volunteers are not the only students helping out. Kopperud and Samantha Wendt, the student coordinator for marketing and events at the REC, along with their team of student employees were the backbone of the entire event.
“[The Turkey Trot] is a great opportunity for the community and campus to come together before Thanksgiving and to promote healthy lifestyles while also supporting a noble cause,” said Wendt. “One of the best parts is seeing the start of the race, and everyone is just behind the start line, and you’re like wow, you just put on that event for all of these people, and they’re actually enjoying it.”
